David Pringle Laird

My uncle, John Gibson Scott, once owned Tower of Glenstrae in Argyll. The house was looked after by his mother (my Granny). The Tower has a wonderful view of Kilchurn castle.

The nearest neighbour of the Tower of Glenstrae is Lochawe Hotel:

I spent a guid part of my childhood (in school holidays) at the Tower. With my friends Robert and Richard we fished the loch. Here I am with Richard on the Lochawe pier, just below the Hotel:

The pier was integral to Lochawe railway station:

Early September 1905, the pier was the site of this terrible accident:

“In the deceased’s left hand was a box of matches and in his right he held his gold watch, which had stopped at 11.18”
