Cowiehall

Sometime before 1885, when ploughing a field near Cowiehall in Stirlingshire, a Throsk farmer came across a statuette of Mercury in bronze. This statuette is now kept by the National Museum of Scotland.

Following this discovery, the fields around Cowiehall were dug more deeply – not to look for more human antiquities – but to quarry stone. These quarries are now being filled in with human waste, and lorry after lorry now passes through the village of Cowie with oor detritus.

Aye, it seems that a’ so few recall that the God was found naked and that his purse wis lang gan!
