‘Doctors’ Survey Sparks Campaign’

Thanks to digital technology newspaper archives are now easily accessible. If you type ‘Defeat Depression’ into any such newspaper archive you will find that reporting of the five year ‘Defeat Depression Campaign’ featured in nearly every newspaper across the land. These newspaper reports generally included subjects such as stigma, ‘chemical imbalance’ and the ‘ignorance’ of the general public.

The ‘Defeat Depression Campaign’ was financially sponsored by the Pharmaceutical Industry. Yet virtually no mention of this is made in the newspaper reports.

This ‘educational’ campaign which ran from 1991 to 1996 was jointly approved, and sustained by, the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Royal College of General Practitioners. Neither College has made available the extensive material relating to this campaign. Such darkness begs the question: is this how science should be?
