Carron House

On Monday the 19th February 2018, with a friend, I explored Carronshore and the designed landscape that survives around Carron House.

Carron House has a fascinating history that is tied with the Carron Iron Works. Nobody can recall when, but Carron House was badly damaged by a fire and left roofless. In the late 19th century a house was built within its shell.

Carron House has somehow survived as a house-within-a-house and also through its wonderful gardens that were once beautifully maintained by Mungo Temple as gardener for the Dawson sisters.

This post is dedicated to Miss Dinah Dawson, a philanthropist and flower grower.
