Jane Creighton

The week before last I took my 1959 Defender to Strathearn Garage for some much needed attention. This garage is in Aberuthven about 10 miles south of Perth.  I stopped by Aberuthven old parish churchyard to have a wander. Here I came across:

I was not quite sure what to make of it:

It was beautifully carved sandstone projection into the sky with a deliberate break carved into it.

The stone was carved by Ralph Birlison for his wife Jane who had died at their home on  Monkwearmouth shore:

Ralph, a mason by trade, was a travelling railway bridge Inspector. Jane was left at home in Hallgarth Square looking after their two young weans:

This old map would indicate that Monkwearmouth was a centre for industry:

The neighbouring tomb was of an angel:
