Caroline Phillips (1870-1956) was a pioneering Aberdeen journalist who put job her on the line to spearhead the suffrage movement in the north east of Scotland.
One hundred years on and, whilst women can now vote, we still find widespread misogyny and patriarchy.
My favourite poem is “Two girls singing” by Iain Crichton Smith. Such voices, natural, real and simply felt, matter more to me than perhaps I will ever find words or images to convey.
Caroline’s cause continues.
[please note: the images of the Suffragette meeting at Laurencekirk are contemporaneous with Caroline Phillips activism but do not capture her]
