All that survives of Ballachroan was the ‘improvement doorway’ that the Black Captain aquired from Kingussie chapel when a new church was being built.

The Catastrophe of Gaick is a famous episode in Gaelic tradition where many tales, poetry and traditions inspired by the event have combined. This rather macabre account of Captain John MacPherson of Ballachroan (1724–1800), styled in Gaelic tradition as An t-Othaichear Dubh (The Black Officer) or Othaichear Dubh Bhaile a’ Chròdhain (The Black Officer of Ballachroan).
