The Site of Auchendrane Castle not a vestige of which remains. It was the residence of John Muir mentioned in Sir Walter Scott’s Tragedy of Auchendrane. Patterson in his History of Ayrshire says “not a vestige of the building now remains. The only memorial left of it is a yew tree, the age of which it is impossible to guess at. The Dule tree, respecting which Sir Walter Scott tells a characteristic anecdote of the last Laird of Auchendrane, was cut down and sold to a cabinet-maker”.
