The Culfargie Yew

1858: “In the Orchard attached to Culfargey Stand a Celebrated Yew tree whose branches are very curiously turned into the form of an Arm Chair in which the Reverend Mr Moncrieffe the first dissenting Minister from the Church of Scotland studied the most of his sermons”

Alexander Moncrieffe (1695–1761) was jocularly called ‘the lion of the secession church’ by his colleagues.
