in 2013 there was a head-to-head debate published in the BMJ on antidepressant prescribing. It so happened that this was between two Scottish NHS doctors: Professor Ian C Reid and Dr Des Spence.
On the 1st March 2018, the Chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of Scotland, Dr John Crichton, stated in public that “it was good to refresh my memory of this given some recent discussions”. Dr Crichton was supporting the argument of Professor Ian C Reid that antidepressants are NOT over-prescribed.
Scottish Government ISD figures have revealed that in 2018 nearly 1 in 5 Scots are taking antidepressants. Surely this is Psychiatry in Fabula!
