During her stay in The Trossachs, Queen Victoria visited various places of historical interest in the neighbourhood.
One day she drove to Balquhidder to see Rob Roy’s grave. Another day she drove round the lower end of Loch Vennachar, and up the north side of the lake to the Brig o’ Turk, to pay a special visit to the well-known Big Kate of Lanrick, or Mrs Ferguson, who kept a small, humble inn near the Brig o’ Turk, and who was by far and away the biggest and heaviest woman (over 27 stones) then in broad Scotland.
