Chrystal photographs

I am working on a number of posts for Hole Ousia that will explore the lives and work of a father and son. The father was George Chrystal [1851-1911] a Professor of Mathematics, University of Edinburgh. He had seven children; his second son was Frances Maxwell Chrystal [1882-1944]. The photographic studies of both are included in the Trove archive. Their photographic studies ‘capture’  Edinburgh in times long since by.  Without their photography this would have been lost.

James Hamilton, Research Principal for the WS Society, has written an account of Frances Maxwell Chrystal. It really is so well written and researched and I highly recommend it. Even if you are not interested in photography or Edinburgh, you will find the story fascinating.
