‘She has a singularly musical voice’

Mrs Ellen Lloyd Key Blunt (1821–1884) was an American poet, author, and elocutionist, best known as the ninth child of Francis Scott Key, the composer of “The Star-Spangled Banner“. In 1846, she married Simon Fraser Blunt, a prominent U.S. Navy officer and cartographer. Following his early death in 1854,  she turned to literature and public performance to sustain her family, traveling throughout Europe before passing away in Tenby, Wales in 1884.
