The first family car that my parents had was a Morris Minor Traveller. Here it is, with roof rack, at Drumdruils, Bridge of Allan. In it we took Gustav, who worked for my grandfather, to Stirling railway station. In the photograph, Gustav is carrying all his worldly possessions. He did not want to leave Scotland but my grandfather’s fruit farm had been making a loss year-after-year. I recall the tears running down his cheeks. We believe that Gustav returned to the country of his birth, Poland. This was the last time that we saw him.

I remember our family Morris Minor Traveller most fondly. Sitting on the back vinyl seat between my two sisters [no seat belts were then required] and how the travel potty would slide on the vinyl to and fro! Occasionally, to our horror, it would release some of its contents!

The ‘Traveller’ took us to Drumdruills: that most special place for me. So many times it crossed the Wharry Brig: before the small road between Dunblane and Bridge of Allan was closed due to repeated land falls.
