My only brother

Earlier this year, on one of my ‘wee madcap adventures’ with Big Ted, I explored some of ‘lost’ Perthshire. Having come across the story of George Robertson, postman for Methven in the 1950s and 60s, I was determined to try and find his remote family home.

This short film is about this adventure. However, I do feel a need to share an important anecdote. Arriving at Lyndoch in my auld Land Rover, out of the trees, seemingly coming from the middle of nowhere I met a man walking his dogs.  We got chatting. He was kind. Surprised to see me arrive to somewhere so remote he asked why I had come to this ‘lost’ reach of rural Perthshire? I explained that I was looking for the cottage of George Robertson, a former postman for the village of Methven. He replied: “I have lived here all my life and walk my dogs every day . . . there is no cottage here”.

However, I did find George Robertson’s cottage! It was not easy to find as it had long since been enveloped by many decades of wild growth. This is the story:
