A few years ago I spent a week exploring Scottish gardens that had been tended by a namesake – Peter Gordon, ‘Jobbing Gardener, Forres’. I had considered that, despite having the same name, we were unrelated. I was to end up finding otherwise!
To trace Peter Gordon, gardener, I was greatly helped by the census returns between 1841 and 1881.
This year, 2021, I was looking forward to completing the census form with my occupation as ‘gardener’! Alas, I will have to wait another year as the census return in Scotland has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
