I shared the above post (and film) with the Scottish Government and I have received the following response:
The Government states “in our view this was an appropriate response to the conflicts of interest issue . . .”
In the 3 years since my petition for a Sunshine Act for Scotland was closed there have been a number of health related inquiries where financial conflicts of interest have been a factor. The Scottish Government has missed an opportunity to be world leading on this. It is also undermining its own initiatives such as Realistic Medicine, Duty of Candour and ‘Our Voice”. Furthermore, without full transparency of competing interests, “fully informed consent” will only ever be an unachievable ambition.
It is disappointing that this opportunity to reduce the risk to patients has been rejected.
