Elmer the patchwork elephant

We are fortunate to have a curved wall around our garden. A few years ago we made a Ladybird Hunt for children that happen to pass by.  This has been a great success and it is a delight to hear toddlers spotting the ladybirds [there is even an ‘odd one’ to spot – it has yellow dots].

Where an old red telephone box once stood [we were sad to see it go] I was keen to paint something colourful on the wall. The first idea that came to my mind was ELMER the patchwork elephant!

The red telephone box stood just where my tin of crayons are.

My initial sketch [design by the wonderful David McKee].

We begin painting the patchwork colours.

It starts raining: Elmer, Sian and Peter get rather wet!
