Bannockburn House Trust was recently gifted a red sandstone unicorn by Prudential. This unicorn had been an ornamental feature in the grounds of Craigforth House, Stirling.
The unicorn was listed on this Gazetteer of Heritage Assets:
Margaret, Head Gardener for Bannockburn House has placed the unicorn in the centre of the walled garden. Willie and Robert have made a wonderful stone plinth for it and the blacksmith has even made a new lead unicorn [as the original was broken]. Sue has been planting the circular bed around it.
It is lovely to see the unicorn looking at home again! The unicorn even casts a shadow like a sun-dial: Time passes. Listen. Time passes.
