On Friday last, Sian’s cousin Kelly arrived in Scotland with her friend Hannah. Nearly 30 years had passed since Sian had last met her cousin [at the wedding of Peter and Sian]. Back together, we took the tram from the airport into Edinburgh. This was Armistice Day. By the time the Tram reached Princes Street the sun was setting. Edinburgh castle, above us, was lit in red [the colour of poppy fields].
On Rose Street I spotted tiny crosses chalked on historic buildings. I don’t think that these tiny colourful crosses were noticed by most of those who walked by.
