A year ago I had a short stay in Aberdeenshire. It felt like returning home.

Many years ago now since I climbed Mortlich. As a bairn a friend and I visited auld Arthur who lived at the bottom of the hill. Not too far away lies the ruins of Bonnyside farm where Arthur had once worked. He kept a solitary existence with only his cats for company. The place wasn’t as sparkling clean as it could have been but he was a character and entertained us with stories of his time at Bonnyside, all told to us in very broad Doric. I don’t think such characters exist today.
Thank you Alyne for sharing your memories of Arthur and his cats. Stories live on, however broad the Doric!¬
