“Fit for a Prince”

The cover story of the property supplement in today’s Scotland on Sunday features the beautiful restoration of Kingsburgh Boathouse, Skye.

Nearly five years ago I made this experimental film after visiting Kingsburgh, a ruined Laird’s House on Skye. It was where Flora MacDonald gave one night’s home to Bonnie Prince Charlie.

This film has a wee peek at Kingsborough, Skye. Where Flora MacDonald gave one night’s home to Bonnie Prince Charlie. As a backward antiquary I have found that the male ‘voice’ persists. This film is a teeny  corrective to such a prevailing history. The spoken words used in this short film are taken from a BBC Radio 4 production of “The Antiquary”. I am increasingly aware that all narratives (of time past) are but fragments.

Trespass, passed, past:

At Kingsburgh I met the woman who had grown up in the house. I helped her fix a new bulb in her hallway light and she showed me photographs of how the Laird’s House was in her childhood [please note Kingsburgh House is private property].
