Solvitur ambulando

I recently searched the British Newspaper Archive for the first use of the word “psychiatry” in those Scottish papers that have been archived. This was the earliest report and related to the proposal in the 1860s for Edinburgh to have a new Royal Infirmary (this was completed in 1879 and is now superseded by new Royal Infirmary at Little France).

Solvitur ambulando is a Latin phrase which means “it is solved by walking”.
