An infinite avenue

On a beautiful April day we visited Barnbarroch House and estate. It lies just a few miles south of Wigtown in Dumfrieshire.

We arrived at Barnbarroch somehow back-to-front and were simply wowed by the romantic beauty of the setting alongside the profound sense of absence.

Barnbarroch House was destroyed in a fire in late October 1941 and sadly Mrs Van Agnews died in the blaze.

Barnbarroch looked out over its own lochan which had an infinite avenue as its backdrop.

Words used in this film come from Virginia Wolff ‘Mrs Dalloway” and from the short stories of Thomas Mann.

The music includes ‘Helpless to turn’ by the Burns Unit and “It’s Happening Again” by Agnes Obel
