On the site of the former Tivoli Picture House [pictured above] a New Tivoli Picture House was built. The new cinema opened on the 1st January 1934. It is a wonderful Art Deco building. The two cinemas – old and new – were respectively run by father and son, both named John Robertson. Sadly, both had rather short lives.
The ‘New Tivoli Picture House’ been listed Category B status due to the quality of the interior. The last picture shown there was on 28th July 1973.
