The above photograph of Milne’s Court, Lawnmarket, Edinburgh is full of life. The photograph was taken, according to Trove, in 1910.
Edinburgh City Libraries has put together this wonderful account: History of the house: Milne’s Court. Where it is outlined that “Milne’s (or Mylnes) Court was built in 1690 by Robert Milne of Balfarg, the Royal Master Mason” and goes on to say that at that time “the building was an example of the best in desirable accommodation . . . offering exclusive apartments round a courtyard”.
As you will see from newspaper extracts [as shared below] by 1914, Milne’s Court was described in the headlines, as “Slum Property in Edinburgh”:
