From 1979 to 1985 I attended Firrhill Secondary School in Edinburgh. Despite being considered a ‘backward learner’ and being shy, I was both happy and successful at this large comprehensive school.
My Primary education was more difficult. I struggled to read and write and the teachers concluded that I had “no pace to my learning”:
So I arrived at Firrhill Secondary School with little more than imagination and an ability to feel what many others do not:

I am old now. I am a retired. I worked as a doctor. I am a gardener, artist and poet. My experience of Firrhill Secondary School was nothing but good. Indeed, it was life-changing. I realise that my experience is just that and cannot be generalised. My invitation in this post is for you to share your memories of schooling .
