The architect William Henry Playfair brought light to specimens in jars. More than two hundred years later so did Kathleen Jamie in her book FINDINGS.
I was born in Edinburgh over 50 years ago and Surgeons’ Hall continues to be a building that I want to revisit and look at [observe] both from the outside and the inside! I believe that – this need of mine – has to do with both form and light.
This post is based on the original drawings of Surgeons’ Hall by Playfair alongside the words of Kathleen Jamie. Both drawings and words are wonderful, separated as they are by over 200 years. I hope that these drawings+words may encourage you to visit Surgeons’ Hall.
