This tombstone recalls the SKIRVING family of:

At the bottom of the tombstone is this carved Angel:

This standard was carried into battle Battle of Flodden on 9 September, 1513, by “Black” John Skirving, of Plewlandhill.  With the motto Veritas VincitTruth Will Prevail – and three stags’ heads. The flag was the standard of William Keith, 3rd Earl Marischal of Scotland.

[This flag is now in the custody of the Faculty of Advocates.]
