Inishail

One of my first memories is of Inishail, an island of Loch Awe. To a deafening rifle salute the Duke of Argyll was sent out on a boat to be buried on Inishail. Most of my memories are as silent as light, however this memory remains loud.

Here I share my memories of spending childhood summers in Argyll. My uncle, John Gibson Scott, who lived and worked in Africa, had the Tower of Glenstrae in Lochawe as his Scottish home. Peter and his Granny helped look after it!

“This is your country” was the introduction pamphlet to Lochawe given to John Gibson Scott by his father Rab. In this film we meet Robert the Bruce who battled above Lochawe for Independence. You also meet Winston Churchill who often turned to the notion of ‘our country’. I guess each individual will have his or her own definition of what is “your country”. For me Lochawe had it all.
