It was Roy Porter who first used the term “diagnostic creep”. Since his untimely death this “diagnostic creep” has become unstoppable.

This short film is an artistic expression of my concerns in relation to overmedicalisation [please note: in no way does this film seek to ignore suffering]. It was filmed in Glenquaich, where a classic car race was taking place. I had stopped to watch this with Big Ted. A headline in the paper that I was reading that day stated “Why we must declare a mental health emergency“. It was written by the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland [it can be read in full here].
In this article, the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland has chosen not to consider overmedicalisation and harms associated with this. In contrast, less than a year ago, this article was published in the same newspaper:
