Map of Westerton estate, Bridge of Allan [1812]

This is a special and early map. Thanks to Crinan Alexander and Isabel Steel it has been brought back into the light:

On this map, there are a number of names of places and fields that I had never heard before and also different spellings:

e.g. Wool Faulds Quarry
e.g. Hole Doors
e.g. Longrigs
e.g. Cowshots
e.g. Wershill

Names of field by Keirfield: ‘The Wilderness’ and ‘Trampling Haugh’ [where the allotments and Sports fields now are]

It is noteworthy that on this map, Keir is spelled “Keer”.

The map also has a number of interesting penicil annotations [marginalia] including a description of why Drumdruils, my grandfather’s fairm, might have been so-named [alas this annotation is hard to read]
