Mrs Ann Beattie Davidson ‘who never saw a train‘ lived at Crathat [Crathwaite] with her husband Willie Davidson and their family. She died on the 19 December 1903.
Crathwaite, a hillside but n’ ben, was semi-ruinous by 1861. So the Davidson family moved a few hundred yards downhill to this cottage:
The cottage was next to the site of an old Roman fort:
There are no traces now of either the Fort or Crawthat cottage. Mrs Davidson never saw a train.
