At the forthcoming 2023 Summer Meeting of the British Association for Psychopharmacology [BAP] one of the ‘workshops’ for trainee doctors is titled ‘Public engagement – tips for best practice‘. Former BAP prize winners will offer advice to a new generation of doctors and prescribers of psychiatric drugs. At least two of those sharing their experiences of public engagement are established, career-long, paid opinion leaders. It would be interesting to know what advice they share. Might this include tactics that seem to be reflected in an increasing trend to label those who report harmful consequences of medications [taken as prescribed] with terms such as “pill-shamers”, “anti-psychiatrists” and “demonisers”?
