Remembering young men like Albert Bayne

If you have walked the Darn Road by the Allan Water you will have come to the footbridge over the Wharry [so often washed away]. Beside this bridge is the ruin of Millad.

Sgt Albert Bayne grew up here living with his grandparents. Albert Bayne was killed, aged 21 years, in the battle of Somme.

A few years ago I visited Millad, Albert’s home, exactly 100 years to the day of his death. I took with me some hand-painted words that I hoped might convey the loss of so many young men like Albert Bayne and how we must never forget them.
