I came across this photograph in the CANMORE archive. The position of repose made me laugh. The image was annotated “Professor T H Bryce in Shetland. Copied from a photograph album of M Curle, 1931-5”.Prof Thomas Hastie Bryce (1862–1946) was a Scottish anatomist, medical author and archaeologist. He was Regius Professor of Anatomy at the University of Glasgow 1909 to 1935 and also Curator of the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow. His students referred to him as Tommy Bryce.
His work on the human ovum, in conjunction with Professor Teacher led to an ovum type being named the Teacher-Bryce Ovum.
He was a keen amateur archaeologist, submitting over 40 papers to the Society of Antiquities of Scotland.
