‘In Gordon Street’

Last week, the Scotsman featured ‘In Gordon Street’ as its ‘poem of the week’.

This poem by Gerry Cambridge reminded me of a night, when with my son Andrew, we got lost in Glasgow’s grid structure somewhere between Queen Street and Central Station. The football match that we had attended finished in extra-time and we were acutely aware that the last train from Central Station to Bridge of Allan was minutes away from leaving. So, in a bit of a panic, we asked the first person that we came across. The reply: “ah, nae problem, Gordon Street is the next street doon, follow that and yese are there”
