Professor Allen Frances, the author of ‘Saving Normal’ recently shared a ‘Systematic Umbrella Review‘ on antidepressants and adverse outcomes. In doing so, Professor Frances described this as: “Good news: Antidepressants are less dangerous than the literature suggested.”
However, the ‘Systematic Umbrella Review’ cited by Professor Frances, did not include a range of adverse outcomes including: withdrawal reactions from antidepressants, akathisia, sexual dysfunction, cardiovascular events and cognitive impairment. It also failed to provide convincing evidence that antidepressants protect against suicide in adults.
