‘a has-been doctor’

I recently read ‘Clock Dance’ by Anne Tyler. It is an understated exploration of the life of one woman. A woman called Willa who we experience [first hand] from wee girl, to mother, widowed mother, to grandmother (but not to her own grandchild).

This novel seems to me to be about ties  family love, and the commitments of motherhood. It ends with freedom.

[a side character in the novel is Peter – Willa’s second husband – he comes across as incredibly annoying]
