SCOOP by Evelyn Waugh was first published in 1938.
In SCOOP ‘Mr Baldwin’ is a mysterious man. Mr Baldwin, which is simply the name he prefers to be known by, is a well-connected international businessman who is out to profit personally from the turbulent situation in Ishmaelia, whilst also preserving British economic interests. Eventually, it is Mr Baldwin who writes the text of the final news story for the ‘Beast’.
[please note that SCOOP, written in the 1930s, is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.]
