This photograph from the Trove archive reveals that manipulation of images goes far back in time. Personally, I have been using Adobe Photoshop since its very early days.
Today, we live in an era of AI where image manipulation is easier than ever. Like ever so many people, I have huge concerns about this. Concerns that exist on a number of levels: in relation to creativity, the human wonder of observation [seeing], distortion of truth etc. I also worry about the effect on our planet of the huge heat-emitting AI-servers being constructed all around us.
I sometimes use AI in images used on hole ousia. I have made a rule of annotating any image that has had AI input with this: [Sketch]. I try to confine my use of AI to my small ‘arty’ contributions on hole ousia, that I hope may make people smile, or feel. None of this takes away my overriding concerns about AI. I have no doubt that AI will continue to be discussed and debated for as long as it is in existence.
