Dear Andrew,
On Thursday evening I visited an old farm on the Braes of Doune. The farm was called BALVORIST. It was once known across Stirlingshire and Perthshire.
Today, it is no more than ankle-high ruins. One of the last family of Balvorist was the McBeath family. Diabetes Mellitus ran in this family: father and children died of what today we know as Type I Diabetes. This was long before Insulin had been discovered.
In my ‘activism’ for science to be independent of outside interests this film is a reminder, as you know better than any other, that nothing could be more wrong to label me as ‘anti-innovation’, ‘anti-progress’ etc.
