Making way for a motorway [the M9]

Around the time of my birth work was underway to build a new motorway through the Carse of Lecropt. The following images are from this time and were kindly donated to the Dr Welsh Trust by Barbara Braes.

Here you can see the Lecropt burn before the motorway was built [this view is close to where the Keir roundabout was made]:

This small bridge spanned the Lecropt burn and carried the south approach to Keir House. This driveway passed close to old Lecropt churchyard:

The South Lodge to Keir was carefully dismantled and re-erected stone by stone to form a ‘new entrance’ to Keir House. It was re-sited off the Keir roundabout [so, in a way, the south lodge became the north lodge]:

Through the south lodge gates, walkers from Bridge of Allan, could visit old Lecropt churchyard [it was open ‘every Sunday’]:

This is a most interesting view, it is from the old Lecropt churchyard looking towards the burn and the Lecropt Well:

This is a closer view [might the girl in the photograph be Barbara Brae with her brother?]:

The North lodge was not moved but was fully restored [as the south lodge had been moved a little north of it, no longer could its name to be said to be geographically correct]:

The original north drive to Keir can be seen. It had to be removed to allow the M9 through. The Keir Curling pond and house were on the left  of the drive.

Today, the ruin of the Keir Curling Pond Cottage is passed by thousands of cars travelling each day on the M9:
