I recall a round-table discussion of many years ago between senior NHS doctors and senior NHS managers. I offered a philosophical perspective on ageing and memory but was interrupted by a senior doctor who was keen to tell all that “Peter wear’s his heart on his sleeve” [ implying that I was “overly sensitive” and thus less objective]:
Perhaps we need to honour sensitivity, to value its gifts, and to see how it leads us towards compassion.
Yes, I think so. The artificial divide between intellect and feel is just that: artificial.
