Comments made on Twitter are often ones that we would not dream of making were we sitting beside one another. Too often, the language used and the challenges made are neither respectful nor constructive. Divides can be entrenched and shared learning diminished.

If an organisation, such as the RCPsych, wishes to aspire to being the arbiter of professionalism then it and its representatives must be willing to hold to account its own members for their behaviour on social media when they depart from organisational values.

This RCPsych statement of 27 May 2021 included the following promise: “We will take action against individuals or groups who are working with the College and who produce or disseminate social media posts that contravene our College’s values”
