This is one of three watercolours painted by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for The Magazine of April 1894. This was in the period after his graduation and his accompanying hand-written text [see below] suggests that he had already encountered public hostility to his work, possibly even from fellow students, on the grounds of incomprehensibility.
