This is our TUFTY day!

The Tufty Club was established in 1961 with clubs set up all over Britain:

The main character, Tufty Fluffytail, was created by Elsie Mills. Tufty and his friends featured in the stories and campaigns created by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) to teach children road safety. This was to address the concerning increase in children involved in road accidents during the 1950s.

Stirling Council Archives hold records gifted by the Bridge of Allan branch of the W.R.V.S. These include some records of the organisation’s Tufty Club.

The Bridge of Allan club had their own songs to open and close each meeting. One child even created their own poem about crossing the road safely.
