Achloy [Auchloy] is a farm just outside Crieff. The farmhouse has been abandoned.
‘Blue Peter’ type: this film [click on link] follows my visit to Achloy on Monday 1st November 2021.
This film is a thank you to Richard Holloway for his kindness
The following photographs of the Nicol family of Auchloy have been kindly shared by Ann Nicol:
Details kindly provided by Ann Nicol:
[1] David Nicol(l) (1843-1922) and Janet Niven (1841-1883) resided at Auchloy in 1881 and 1895 census. They had eleven children.
[2] John Nicol married Jeannie Forrest (1875-1897) in 1894. They had one living child, my grandfather David Nicol (1895-1964). I believe the portrait is from her wedding day. Jeannie was the second eldest of six children of Alexander Forrest (1840-1919) and his second wife Agnes Watson (1844-1917). Following her death, John Nicol immigrated to Canada and David was raised by her parents.
[3] Alexander and Agnes Forrest lived at Auchloy in 1901 and 1905. The census reports show young David Nicol residing with them. John stayed in touch with his son. The photo of Alexander and Agnes was taken at Tomacknock house in Crieff where my grandparents and Dad lived. They cared for them there until their passing. In the 1920’s my family immigrated to Canada to start a business with grandpa John Nicol.
[4] David Nicol married Elizabeth Wyllie in 1918 after the War.
