I came across this report in the Scotsman of 4 May 1927:


In doing some further research I established that Reginald Porteous died of pneumonia in Edinburgh’s City Hospital in 1966. He was a widower and 70 years old. It would seem that he had no further criminal career other than the thefts of tools in 1927. I was interested to find that Reginald’s father was a sculptor and tools were vital to his artisan vocation:
