“The MOCK DOCTOR, not acted before this season”

I recently came across this delightful map of Hawkhill and its observatory. Before it was demolished this Georgian villa used to neighbour Holyrood Palace, just below Salisbury crags.

The title of this post comes from a 1762 newspaper report of a play that the artist William DeLacour painted the scenery for. It was around this time that DeLacour painted the panels for Hawkhill House.

This John Adam Villa was demolished in 1971.
